Looking for quick tips on how to get ready for a personal photoshoot? Look no further!

I finally did a photoshoot! I don't know why, but ever since the idea was born, it has taken me over a year to make it come to fruition. I think my biggest concern was actually styling myself. Weird right!? As someone that loves to play dress up all day everyday, the thought of curating my own looks and posing in front of a photographer made me extremely nervous!

As a process oriented person I had to make sure I created the best methods to keep me sane. Here are some methods I used to execute:

  1. Ask yourself why you want a photoshoot and write down all the potential use cases for your final images. Examples of some potential use cases are LinkedIn profile, Social media content, Event flyers, website update etc

  2. From a third party lens, what message would you like to portray through these images. Think of specific key words like confident, approachable, knowledgable, sexy, etc.

  3. Use these keywords identified to research outfits Pinterest and Google. As you discover images you're drawn to, start creating a look book

  4. A big part of my decision was my hair. I change it so often that I had to decide which hairdo I would like for the photoshoot. I stuck with braids because that's my most consistent hairstyle I like and I am usually recognized in. I would recommend that you make this decision based on what works for you.

  5. Begin gathering your clothing pieces and putting them together!(You can also get a personal stylist to do this for you)

  6. Research a photographer

  7. Schedule your shoot and you're good to go!!

It can honestly be intimidating, for some more than others, but you will be fine! Remember, if you don't like how the pics turn out, if your style changes. or your hair changes, you can always re-take them later. Still, be sure to invest the time and effort, it'll be worth it at the end.
